Description
Lower Carley Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the 1830s for the Lifton Estate. It features stone rubble brought to course with stone dressings and a slate roof that is hipped at the ends, along with brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan with two rear wings, which are likely late 19th century additions. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical front with three windows. The central gabled stone porch has a plank front door with strap hinges, topped by a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two 16-pane hornless sash windows, and on the first floor, there are two similar windows alongside a central 12-pane sash window. The deep eaves are supported by paired timber brackets. The interior has not been inspected. Lower Carley was constructed for the Lifton Estate when three adjacent farms were combined and is typical of the estate farms, but it is notable for retaining the farmhouse facade intact.
