Description
Higher Fernhill is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with later additions. The building is whitewashed and rendered, likely made of cob, and features a hipped slate roof. The main range has a large projecting stack with set-offs and a brick chimney shaft at both the right and left ends.
The farmhouse has a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical front, with a central 20th-century gabled porch. The windows are 16-pane sashes with horns, although the left ground floor window has been reglazed as a 4-pane sash.
Inside, the right side of the ground floor includes a boxed-in cross beam and an early 19th-century panelled dado. The left side features similar panelling and a mid-19th-century marble chimney piece. The quality of the panelling and fireplace is notably elegant for a small farmhouse.
