Description
Dingley Dale is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations and an addition made in the 20th century. It is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and features a thatched roof made of Norfolk Reed, which is hipped at the left end. The building has stacks located at the right gable end and on the ridge. It has a single depth plan with rear lean-tos that have slate roofs. Originally a 2-cell house, it has been extended at the left end and refenestrated in the late 20th century.
The house is two storeys high and has a four-window front, with a 20th-century gabled porch on the left side. The windows are 1- and 2-light 20th-century casements with diagonal leaded lights, and the eaves are eyebrowed over three first-floor windows. There are pigeon holes under the eaves on the front. At the rear, there is one early 18th-century 2-light first-floor casement that retains some old leaded panes and crown glass.
Inside, the fireplace at the right gable end has been rebuilt with a replaced jamb. The fireplace on the ridge stack has a decayed chamfered lintel and has been made narrower. Some ceiling beams are exposed, and while the roof space has not been inspected, it is said to contain some old timbers along with replaced purlins.
