Description
No. 48 Torrington Street is a house, formerly with a shop, dating from the mid-19th century. It features solid rendered walls and a slate roof, with no chimneys. The front is gabled and two storeys high, with an additional garret, and has a two-window range. The ground storey includes a late 19th-century shop front with an entablature, flanked by gabled blocks on consoles, and features plain display windows with a doorway to the left. The upper-storey windows and the garret window have plain architraves, with sashes that include margin-panes and horns. The plain bargeboards project on scroll-shaped brackets. The rear wall, which is visible from Bideford Bridge, has second-storey sashes with margin-panes and a gable with plain bargeboards. The interior has not been inspected.
