Description

14 Torrington Street is a house that likely dates from the 18th century, with a 19th-century addition at the rear. It features a solid rendered front and a steeply-pitched roof. There is an old red-brick chimney at the left end of the ridge, which appears to be shared with the adjacent house at No. 12. Additionally, there is a late 19th-century or early 20th-century red-brick chimney on the right side wall, just behind the ridge.

The house is two storeys tall with a garret and has a three-window range, although the ground-storey openings are not aligned with those above. The front door, which is off-centre to the right, is a four-panelled design with the two lower panels flush and features a two-paned fanlight above. There is a plank door on the right side, which was renewed in 1988, and it appears to lead to the former No. 15 at the rear. The ground-storey window to the left is set well away from the left side wall. All windows have barred sashes in recessed box frames, with eight panes per sash, except for the left-hand upper-storey window, which has six-paned sashes with horns. The eaves have a small boxed wooden cornice.

Centrally placed on the roof is a single gabled dormer that contains plain two-light wooden casements, with horizontal planking above and moulded bargeboards. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have half-glazed inner double doors, each with a solid moulded lower panel and two panes of glass above.
