Description

This is a pair of mirrored houses located in Torrington Street, Bideford, dating from the mid-19th century. The fronts are of solid render, with faint traces of the original masonry markings visible. They have slate roofs, and a late 19th-century red-brick chimney runs along the ridge; a similar chimney attached to the side wall of the adjacent property, number 14, may actually belong to number 16.

Each house is two storeys high, with one window at the end of each storey. Centrally, they each feature a round-arched doorway, framed by a chamfered architrave and a keystone. The doorways have four-panelled doors. The windows are sash windows with two panes of glass and margin panes, featuring horns. A bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top of the front elevations.

The interiors were not inspected, however, number 16 has a half-glazed inner front door consisting of two solid moulded panels at the bottom.
