Description
No. 8 Grenville Street is a house with a shop, dating from the early to mid 19th century, with a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front. The building has a solid rendered front wall and a slate roof, with no visible chimneys from the street. It stands three storeys high and features a two-window range. The ground storey includes a wooden shop front, which is flanked by fluted and panelled pilasters supporting slender paired consoles that carry round-headed panelled blocks. An entablature runs between the consoles and blocks, with its cornice concealed by an added fascia. The shop's display window is divided into three large panes by upright glazing-bars and is splayed at the left-hand end, leading to a recessed, half-glazed door that has two solid moulded panels at the bottom. In front of the door, there is a patterned coloured tile paving. The upper-storey windows are 6-paned sashes set in recessed box-frames. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
