Description
No. 4 Grenville Street in Bideford is a building that was originally a house and shop, but is now solely a shop and part of Nos 2 and 3. It likely underwent a late 19th-century refacing of an earlier structure. The front is solidly rendered, and the roof covering is not visible from the street. The building has three storeys and features a two-window range. The ground floor is occupied by a three-paned display window with two upright glazing bars, flanked by pilasters that support an entablature with a dentilled cornice. The display windows may have been altered in the center. The upper-storey windows are adorned with moulded architraves and sashes with margin panes. Although the interior was not inspected, just inside the display window, there is a pair of four-shafted iron columns. This building is part of a well-preserved row of 19th-century properties that feature complete shop fronts and is included for its group value.
