Description
No. 25 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from 1709 but includes elements from an earlier building. The front is made of brick, while the structure is timber-framed, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has three storeys and features two pedimented gabled dormers. It has a three-window arrangement, with a late 20th-century shopfront that extends across the adjacent buildings, Nos. 23, 24, 26, and 27. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes with flat-arched brick heads, moulded sills, and recessed aprons below the second-floor windows. One window has a stone panel inscribed with the date. The exterior also includes stone quoins and a string course, as well as an overhanging moulded wood modillion eaves cornice. Inside, the timber-framed structure is extensively exposed, as it is part of the larger premises of a department store that has included this building since at least the early 20th century.
