Description
26 and 27 High Street are two buildings, now functioning as a shop but likely originally built as dwellings around 1800. They are constructed of brick with a roof that is not visible behind a parapet. The buildings rise four storeys and feature a five-window range, divided into three windows for No.26 and two for No.27. Although they are separate constructions, they were built at the same time. A late 20th-century shopfront has been inserted, extending across the adjacent property, No.25. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes, each with flat entablatures above, supported by moulded console brackets. Notably, there is an additional window in the centre of the first floor of No.27, which has a round-arched head. No.27 also has stone quoins at its angles. Both buildings share a moulded stone eaves cornice of identical design. They have been part of a department store since at least the early 20th century.
