Description
Nos. 36, 37, and 38 on Church Street are shops and dwellings dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a hipped roof covered with 20th-century pantiles. They have a double-depth plan and rise three storeys above a cellar, presenting a three-window range with 6/6 sash windows (one window is missing) set beneath segmental arches. There are also 3/3 sash windows, which were added in the late 19th century, located above. The eaves are adorned with brick modillion detailing.
The ground floor has three shop fronts that have been significantly altered over time. These fronts include moulded glazing shafts, cast-iron columns, and a moulded fascia board with a cornice. There is a half-glazed door leading to No. 38, and the right side features a spurstone and a chamfered return, which has various sashes under segmental arches. At the rear, there are additional 6/6 and 3/3 sash windows, along with brick modillion eaves. A plank door is found in a mutilated wing at the back of the building.
