Description

Nos. 9 and 10 Church Street are shops and dwellings that date back to the early 19th century, although they have an earlier core. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped roof made of corrugated asbestos, with a brick stack at the front. It stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has a two-window range, showcasing 8/8 sash windows under segmental arches on the first and second floors. The parapet has been restored in the 20th century. The shop fronts, which date from the late 19th to early 20th century, include central 20th-century glazed doors and canted plate-glass windows with moulded glazing-shafts, as well as moulded fascia boards with stop-consoles.

On the left side of the building, there is an 8/8 sash window on the first floor, with a 4/4 sash window above it, a plain light, and a 4-panel door to the right. Inside, there is a mutilated 18th-century dogleg staircase with five turned balusters. On the second floor, there is a 20th-century 4-panel door, an 18th-century part-glazed panelled door, a chamfered ceiling beam, and exposed 18th-century framing. The first floor likely features timber framing, with 17th-century chamfered ceiling beams, a 20th-century 4-panel door, and a 19th-century fireplace. The ground floor has exposed ceiling beams, one of which is chamfered, and the cellar contains some stonework.
