Description
No. 23 High Street is a house with a shop, dating from the early 19th century. It features a solid rendered front and a slate roof, with a red-brick chimney located on the right side wall. The building stands three storeys high and has a one-window range. The ground storey has a late 20th-century shop front. The second storey contains a tall window with a moulded architrave, flanked by French windows, each consisting of three panes with margin-panes, and transom-lights that have intersecting glazing-bars forming Gothic arches. At each end of the front, there are pilasters with a pair of incised lines that are scrolled at the top, supporting an entablature decorated with anthemions and egg-and-dart motifs. Above this is an attic storey with matching pilasters that rise to a simple moulded wooden cornice, featuring a plastic-framed late 20th-century window with imitation glazing-bars. The interior has not been inspected.
