Description
No. 72 Newport Road is a house with a shop, built in the early 19th century. It features a solid rendered front, with the left side wall being slate-hung and a slated roof. There is a painted brick chimney on the right side wall. The building has two storeys and a two-window range.
On the ground floor, there is a six-panelled house door at the extreme left-hand end, which has round lights cut into the top panels, a knocker, and a worn stone doorstep. Above the door is a flat hood supported by horizontal brackets. To the right of the door is the original projecting shop window, which has rounded corners and a top entablature. This shop window contains three lights with sashes: the central light has eight over twelve panes, while the side lights have four over six panes.
The upper-storey windows feature barred sashes, with six over six panes on the left and eight over eight panes on the right. Below the eaves, there is a projecting moulded board that resembles a box-cornice.
