Description

This is a terrace of three houses located on Newport Road in Barnstaple, dating from the early 19th century. The facades are solid and rendered, with slated roofs. Each house has a red brick chimney on its right side wall. The houses are two storeys high, with a two-window range, although the doorway replaces the left-hand ground-floor window of each. Number 58 is wider than the others, and its ground-floor openings are not aligned with those above. Number 58 has a six-panelled door with a central bead-moulding and knocker; numbers 59 and 60 have four-panelled doors with flush bottom panels and knockers. Number 59 features a narrow fanlight with intersecting glazing bars set diagonally. Most windows are small-paned, box-framed sashes, with 8 over 8 panes to the ground floor and 6 over 6 panes above. Number 60 differs with a canted bay window to the ground floor, featuring a top entablature, a swept roof, and plain sashes. There is also a blind window to the left of the upper storey. The buildings have moulded boards below the eaves. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is included on the list for its group value.
