Description

This building, comprising numbers 4 and 4A South Street, is likely an 18th-century house, though it was remodelled in the early 19th century. It has a roughcast front and a slated roof. A red brick chimney is located on the left side wall, likely shared with the adjacent building at number 3. A painted brick chimney on the right side wall has been extended to rise above the roofline of number 5. The building is two storeys high, with a three-window front. The central doorway is flanked by three reeded columns which support an entablature with a dentilled cornice, and a shoescraper is positioned to the left of the door. A late 20th-century studded door is set within the opening. To the right of the doorway is a window with a pair of 9-paned Yorkshire sashes. A canted bay window is on the left side, with a dentilled cornice and 2-paned sashes in the middle. The upper-storey windows have box-framed sashes, each with 6 panes and horns. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
