Description

Numbers 1 and 2 South Street are a mirrored pair of houses dating from the early 19th century. They have rendered frontages and slate roofs. A prominent brick chimney is located centrally on the ridge, with projecting upper courses forming a cap, topped by eight square, tapered chimney pots with decorative tops.

The houses are two storeys high, with a two-window frontage to each. Round-arched doorways are located at the outer ends of each house, set within recessed surrounds. They contain four-panelled doors, with the lower two panels being flush. Each house features a flat-topped bow window on the ground floor, with triple sashes: six-over-six panes in the centre and two-over-two panes at the sides. The upper floor windows are six-paned sashes. Moulded boards run along the underside of the eaves. The interior of the properties has not been inspected.

The front area is defined by railings with lily-head finials to the standards and plain uprights, and includes former moulded and scrolled brackets.
