Description
A mirrored pair of semi-detached houses built in the early 19th century. The front walls are solid and rendered, with slate roofs. A red brick chimney sits on the ridge of the roof, and smaller rendered chimneys are on each side wall. The houses are three storeys high and each has a two-window front. Round-arched doorways are at each end of the ground floor, with recessed surrounds. They originally had six-panelled doors, although the door at number 5 has been replaced in the late 20th century and is set back, with open porches with groin-vaulted ceilings in front. Number 6 has a projecting, semicircular fanlight with a panelled soffit above its doorway. The entire ground floor of number 6 is horizontally channelled, with voussoirs marked in the render around the doorway; however, the arch appears poorly executed, suggesting it’s not original. Each ground floor has a recessed bow window with triple sashes; the central sashes have six panes to each, and those on the sides have two panes. The upper-storey windows have moulded architraves, with those in the second storey set into a raised band above the ground floor. These windows are primarily six-paned, except for the lower second-storey sashes at number 6, which have nine panes. Number 6 also features bowed iron guard-rails with Gothic detail on its second-storey windows. A moulded board runs below the eaves. The interior was not inspected at the time of listing.
