Description

These are a pair of houses, likely originally part of a larger building and dating to the early 19th century. Their position on South Street suggests they may be older than their current appearance indicates. The front of the houses is solid and rendered, with No. 8A having a roughcast finish. They have a slate roof and red brick chimneys on each side wall, the chimney on the left having been reduced in height. The houses are two storeys high, with a wide three-window front. A pair of doors are positioned off-centre to the left, sheltered by a flat hood supported by three horizontal moulded brackets; the doors themselves are modern. Canted bay windows flank the entrance, with the left-hand bay (at No. 8A) featuring a dentilled cornice. Each bay window has an eight-pane sash in the centre and four-pane sashes on either side. The upper storey has a six-pane sash in the centre window and eight-pane sashes in the outer windows. A moulded board runs below the eaves. The interior was not inspected at the time of listing.
