Description

A pair of houses on South Street, Barnstaple, likely dating from the 18th century or earlier, with remodelling in the early 19th century. They have solid roughcast frontages and pantiled roofs with red brick chimneys at each end wall, the chimney on the right shared with the adjacent property at No.12. The houses are two storeys high and have a four-window front. A central plank door likely once provided access to a property at the rear (No.10, which is not part of this listing). Each house has a separate front door; the door to No.11 is six-panelled with a combined knocker and letterbox, with four glazed upper panels. No.9 has two box-framed sash windows on each floor, with 6-over-6 pane glazing and horns. No.11 has one ground-floor window with 8-paned sashes, and the upper floor has two casement windows with two lights of 6 panes each. The interior has not been inspected.
