Description
Number 24, including the side gate and wall to the right, is a house located on South Street in Newport, Barnstaple. It dates from the early 19th century and features solid rendered walls with a tarred slated roof topped with late 19th-century crested ridge tiles. A red brick chimney is situated on the left side wall. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The central doorway is adorned with a delicately-traceried wooden Gothic porch, which has a flat hood supported by a reeded pointed arch. This arch features quatrefoil and trefoil open panels in the spandrels, with slender reeded posts on either side that have shaped brackets at the top. The windows are fitted with 6-paned sashes. To the right of the house is a high rendered wall, likely made of cob or stone rubble, topped with a double-pitched roof of pantiles. There is a plank door at the left-hand end of this wall. The interior has not been inspected.
