Description

St Davids is a house located on New Road in Bideford, dating from the early 19th century, with later additions on the left and at the rear. The building features solid rendered walls, while the rear addition is made of exposed stone rubble. It has hipped slate roofs and three rebuilt red-brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The addition to the left is single-storeyed and one window wide.

The main entrance features a round-arched doorway with a moulded architrave and a mask-keystone, leading to a four-panelled door where the two bottom panels are smaller. It also has a reeded letterbox and an elaborately patterned fanlight. The porch is supported by fluted Ionic columns and has an entablature decorated with dentils and an egg-and-dart motif. The windows have raised surrounds and consist of 8-paned sashes in box-frames, except for the middle sashes on the second storey, which are 6-paned. There is a small boxed eaves cornice, and the side windows to the right have matching sashes. The left addition has a plain triple-sashed window in front, along with a four-panelled door and two windows with 6-paned sashes. Although the interiors were not inspected, the ground-floor front windows of the main house are noted to have panelled shutters.
