Description
No. 57 East Street is a house with a shop, built in the mid-19th century, though it may be slightly older. The building has a solid rendered front and a slated roof, with red-brick chimneys on each gable end. It stands three storeys tall and is four windows wide.
On the ground floor, there is a six-panelled house door, which replaces the second window from the left; the two bottom panels are flush and it features an old knocker and letterbox. Above the doorway, there is a large moulded cornice. To the left of the door is a two-paned sash window set in a shaped surround, while to the right is a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front with a base of brown glazed tiles.
The upper storey windows are mostly two-paned sashes in plain surrounds with continuous sills. The second storey windows have shaped surrounds that match the one to the left of the ground storey. The right-hand second storey window is different, featuring a canted bay with a pent roof, likely added in the late 19th century. The entire front of the building is flanked by raised quoins and has a deep eaves-cornice supported by paired brackets.
