Description
No. 50 East Street is a house from the early 19th century located in Ashburton. It features solid rendered walls and a slated roof that is hipped at both the front and back, with a rendered chimney positioned on the ridge. The building stands three storeys tall and is two windows wide.
On the ground floor, there is a round-arched doorway flanked by pilasters and an entablature on the left. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with a knocker, where the two bottom panels are flush, and a fanlight above with radial bars and two Gothic arches in the center. To the right of the doorway, there is an eight-paned sash window set in a recessed box frame.
The upper storey windows are narrower and feature barred sashes in concealed frames, with six over six panes on the second storey and three over three panes on the third storey. The house has a deep, plain eaves-cornice that continues around the building, supported by paired brackets. The right side wall, which faces the side courtyard of No. 48, has two blind windows on each upper storey.
