Description
No. 6 West Street is a house with a shop that dates from the early to mid 19th century. The front is solid and rendered, designed to imitate masonry, while the gable ends are hung with slate. The roof is also slated, and there is a rendered chimney on the left gable. The building has three storeys and is three windows wide.
On the ground floor, there is a mid-19th century shop front on the left, featuring two display windows with decorative iron uprights, which are canted in the center towards a former doorway that has been converted into a window. There are two doorways, one in the center and one at the right-hand end, both with six-panelled doors that have flush bottom panels; the upper panels of the center door are now glazed. The center doorway also features panelled reveals and a cobweb fanlight. Between the doorways is a second shop window, likely a 20th-century addition.
The upper-storey windows are adorned with moulded architraves and bracketed sills, with six-paned sashes on the second storey and three-paned sashes on the third storey. Full-height rusticated pilasters flank the entire front of the building, and there is a deep, bracketed eaves cornice with a panelled frieze between the brackets.
