Description

No. 12, East Street is a house with a shop, dating to the mid to late 18th century. The front is rendered, while the rear walls are slate-hung, and both are likely timber-framed. The roof is slate-covered, with a rear section of the front block featuring two roof spaces set at right angles to the front. A rendered chimney is located on the left side wall. The building has a double-depth front block and a rear wing to the left, connecting to a wider rear block. It is three storeys high and two windows wide. The ground floor features a mid-to-late 19th-century shop front with flanking pilasters and an entablature. To the right is an 18th-century 6-panelled door, with the lower two panels flush, and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. The upper floor windows have moulded architraves; the second storey has two windows with 6-paned sashes, and the third storey has three windows with 8-paned sashes. A modillioned eaves cornice runs along the top. The rear wall is visible from St Lawrence Lane and includes two 8-paned sash windows in the third storey, and another in the second storey of the wing.
