Description

Two houses with shops, built in the mid-19th century, occupy a corner site in Teignmouth. They are constructed of painted stucco with a continuous slate roof, hipped to the left corner, and incorporating a rendered stack on the party wall. The buildings have double-depth plans, with a canted bay at the corner of number 12. The exterior presents three stories and a three-window range for each house. Rusticated and chamfered quoins define the corners, while a continuous plain eaves band and moulded string courses run along the 2nd and 1st floors. Pilasters frame the 3/6-pane sash windows on the 2nd floor, and 6/6-pane sashes on the 1st floor, which feature cornices supported by consoles. Shops were inserted in the 20th century. The ground floor interiors have been altered. The building occupies a prominent corner location.
