Description
Regent House is a house that has been converted into a house and shop, dating from the early 19th century. It features a painted stucco exterior with an unseen roof and has a double-depth plan. The building stands three storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay facade. The facade is flanked by large semicircular bays that contain 8/8-pane sash windows in curved frames. The ground-floor right side has a 20th-century shop window. French windows with margin panes and an overlight lead to a first-floor balcony, which has delicate vertical segmental curves in the railings between the bays that create a porch for the six-panel door. A 6/6-pane sash window is located in the center of the second floor. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, in 1878, this was the residence from which George Henry Croydon published the Teignmouth Gazette. The ground floor has been altered, but the upper floors remain complete, with curved bays that complement those of the adjacent property, No. 2.
