SX9472 REGENT STREET 25-1/7/188 (North side) 30/06/49 Nos.1 AND 1A Regent House (Formerly Listed as: REGENT STREET (North side) No.1 Regent House)

GV II

House, now house and shop. Early C19. Painted stucco, roof unseen. Double-depth plan. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; symmetrical 3 bays. The parapeted facade is flanked by large semicircular bays with 8/8-pane sash windows in curved frames, the ground-floor right has a C20 shop window. French windows with margin panes and overlight open onto a 1st-floor balcony with delicate vertical segmental curves to the railings between the bays which form a porch to the 6-panel door. 6/6-pane sash window to the centre of the 2nd floor. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: in 1878 this was the house from which George Henry Croydon published the Teignmouth Gazette. Altered ground floor, but complete upper floors with curved bays complimenting those on No.2 (qv). (Kelly's Directory: 1902-).
