Description
This is an early 19th-century double-fronted shop with a former carriage entrance, now comprising two shops. It is located in Teignmouth. The building is rendered and has a shallow-pitched slate roof with a brick stack on the left side. The layout is of a double-depth design, with 20th-century extensions at the rear.
The exterior is three storeys high and has a two-window facade. The upper floors originally had tripartite sash windows, but these have been replaced with late 19th-century casement windows, each featuring hinged two-pane overlights in the centre. The central entrance, which was formerly a six-panel door with an overlight, is now fitted with 20th-century half-glazing, and is set within a fine early 19th-century painted timber doorcase. This doorcase features fluted pilasters supporting a triglyph frieze and cornice. The carriage entrance, now covered by a 20th-century window, has a lath and plaster ceiling and wall on its return to the shop. The interior has not been inspected.
