Description

No. 1 Wellington Street is a house with a shop located on a curved corner site in Teignmouth, dating from the early 19th century. The building features painted stucco and a slate roof that is hipped to the left, with a rendered stack on the right part of the wall, and a painted stone plinth and sills. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall.

The exterior includes a three-window range, with one additional window on the right-hand return to Wellington Street. On the first floor of the Wellington Street facade, there is a large 6/6-pane sash window situated above a late 19th-century shop front. This shop front has a moulded fascia that curves and continues onto the left return, flanked by moulded pilasters with gabled tops. The plate-glass windows feature reeded colonnettes with Corinthian caps and have curved frames at the upper corners. The left return, facing north-east towards The Triangle, has three windows: 3/6-pane sash windows on the second floor and 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor, along with a continuation of the late 19th-century shop front on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected, but it is known that the ground floor has been altered.
