Description
The Kings Arms Public House, also known as No. 3 Regent Gardens, is a house attached to Nos 1 and 2 Regent Gardens on the left and the King's Arms public house on the right. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The exterior features 20th-century render over stone rubble and a slate mansard roof with a rendered stack on the left. The building is two storeys high with an attic and originally had a symmetrical three-window range. It includes two raking dormers with 3/6-pane sash windows, and a dentil cornice that is mostly covered by render, although the lower moulding is still visible above the first-floor 6/6-pane sash windows on the left. The central and right windows are 20th-century, while there is a 6/6-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left. A 20th-century forward extension obscures the front right.
The attached King's Arms public house, altered in the 18th century, has painted stucco and a slate roof with stacks on the front right return, center, and two at the rear wing. It has a double-depth plan with a 19th-century two-storey rear wing and a 20th-century single-storey wing to the left. This part of the building is three storeys high with a one-window range. The coped front parapet features a central pediment flanked by painted stone couchant lions at the corners. The windows and door are from the 20th century. The three-storey block to the left of the right return has two 6/6-pane sash windows on the second floor and one on the first floor left, all in forward frames, above a partly-blocked door. The lower rear wing includes a late 19th-century horned 4/4-pane sash window on the first floor right, above early 20th-century double doors flanked by 20th-century two-light windows with transoms. The interior has been altered, and while the roof of The King's Arms has not been inspected, it is said to be timber-framed, which would explain the forward frames of the windows.
