Description

This house, now two shops, was originally built in the 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. It is constructed with pebbledash to the front of the first floor, possibly over timber framing, rendered elsewhere, and has a steeply sloped slate roof that sweeps forward to the front. A brick stack is located on the right-hand gable end. The building is double-depth with two-storey rear wings.

The two-storey facade has a three-window range. There are two hipped-roofed dormers with slate cheeks and 19th-century two-light, three-pane casements with plate glass to the right-hand leaf. The 19th-century shop fronts feature pilasters rising to a continuous fascia and a cornice that spans the facade. On the left is a 20th-century plate-glass window flanking a 19th-century half-glazed door with a two-pane overlight. In the centre is a wide plank door with a similar overlight leading to a passageway, and to the right of the passage is a matching door with delicate margin panes in the overlight, a 20th-century plate-glass window, and an early 19th-century sash window with six-over-six panes to the far right. An apparent flying freehold means that No. 25 has two upper windows. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to contain earlier features, particularly in the roof structure.
