Description

The Newton Gallery is an early to mid-19th century house, now an art gallery, located in East Street, Newton Abbot. The building is constructed of painted render, with a double-pitched slate roof and rendered stacks to the gable ends. It has a double-depth plan. The exterior presents a symmetrical three-window facade across three storeys. Banded clasping pilasters mark the quoins, and four pilasters with an incised key pattern flank the 8/8-pane sash windows on the upper floors, except for a 20th-century window in the top right corner. Pilasters rise above a cornice band and panelled parapet, the central section of which is higher. A 20th-century shop front replaces the original on the ground floor, which is noted to have been altered. The interior has not been inspected.
