Description
55 East Street is a house that has been converted into an antique centre. It likely dates from the mid to late 18th century and was refronted in the mid 19th century. The building features painted stucco and a slate roof with paired brackets at the eaves, along with rendered stacks on the left gable end and the rear wing. It has a double-depth plan with a long rear left wing that rises successively to three, two, and one storeys.
The exterior consists of two storeys with an attic and a two-window range. There is a late 19th-century flat-roofed dormer that has slate cheeks and a 2/2-pane sash window without horns. The first floor also has similar sash windows, while the ground floor features plate-glass shop windows. The window to the right is small, and to the left is a central doorcase with pilasters and an overlight, all beneath a fascia that includes a retractable sunblind. The interior has not been inspected.
