Description
Nos 161 and 162 on High Street are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the late 17th century and were refronted in the 18th century, with further alterations made in the mid-19th century to the left side. The buildings are finished in stucco, featuring a rusticated ground floor and quoins on the left side. The left side has a coped parapet, while the right side has a bracketed cornice above a plain tiled roof, which includes two large stacks at the rear. The buildings rise three storeys; the left side has a single window front with sashes that have segment heads in splayed bays on the first and second floors, and a bipartite sash on the ground floor. The right side has a two-window front on all floors, with margin light sashes. There is a half-glazed door under a transom light to the left of centre, and a wide single shopfront on the ground floor to the right, which includes a glazed door to the left.
