Description

This is a mid-19th century shop, altered in the late 19th century, situated on a peninsular site in Fore Street, Teignmouth. It has a truncated, wedge-shaped plan. The exterior is painted roughcast with a slate roof and a rendered stack to the left gable end. Originally, it had tripartite sash windows with 6/6 panes, but only the first-floor window on the left side remains intact, the others having been replaced with 19th or 20th-century casements. A late 19th-century shop front is ornate, featuring a deep cornice to the fascia. Four cablemoulded colonnettes with foliate caps and fluted bases flank the plate-glass windows and entrance. The entrance has a six-panel door with a semicircular fanlight, panelled reveals, and soffit. The door is flanked by mid-19th-century pilasters topped with 20th-century consoles that extend to the fascia. The rear of the building has late 19th-century sash windows on each upper floor; the second-floor window has a segmental-arched hoodmould and a bracketed sill, while the first-floor window is similar with a semicircular arch. There is a 20th-century shop on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
