Description
The Kangaroo Inn is a public house dating from the mid-19th century. It features painted incised stucco and a slate roof, with a double-depth plan that includes a two-storey rear right wing on Fore Street. The building stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window range. Originally, there was a 6/6-pane sash window above the door, flanked by 6/6-pane tripartite windows, but all these have been replaced with 20th-century versions. The doorcase is made of painted stone and includes panelled pilasters with moulded caps and plinths that support an entablature. The ground-floor windows are protected by late 19th-century cast-iron Gothic railings in the sills. The building has a 20th-century square cornice and blocking course. The right side facing Fore Street is blank, while the rear wing features a late 19th-century shop front with a decorative dentil and modillion cornice on the fascia, supported by painted stone pilasters with Corinthian capitals. There is a 20th-century door to the left with an overlight and small-pane glazing to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
