Description
Number 2 Arch Lodge is a lodge for the Powderham Estate, built in the early 19th century with a late 20th-century extension. The building is whitewashed and rendered, likely made of stone, and features a thatched roof that is hipped at the ends, with an axial stack in the center of the original block. The architectural style is Gothick.
The lodge has a single-depth, two-room plan with a verandah on the southwest side and a 20th-century extension on the southeast end. It is a single storey with an attic. The original block has a symmetrical three-bay front, where the thatch extends down as a catslide to a three-bay verandah supported by posts, with a pitched stone floor beneath. There are half-glazed pointed arched doors on the left and right, flanked by arched glazing doors, and a pointed arched window in the center. An attic window in the thatch features arched glazing bars, and there are two arched windows with arched glazing bars on the left return. The thatched extension at the right end incorporates original arched windows from the right end wall of the original block.
The interior has not been inspected. Overall, this is an attractive Gothic lodge, with the extension designed in a sympathetic style.
