Description
The Gothic Tea House in the American Garden at Powderham Castle is a tea house located in a landscaped park, dating from around 1800. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond with burnt headers and features stone dressings. The roof is concealed behind a parapet.
The structure is a single-storey building with a long, single-depth range that has a canted center and French casements on the front and sides, showcasing its Gothic Revival style. The exterior has a symmetrical front with two bays on either side of a central three-bay section, which is canted. It features large pointed arch French casements with Gothic glazing bars, moulded stone string-courses, and an embattled parapet above with plain stone coping. The end elevations each have one bay with similar windows.
Inside, the tea house has plastered walls and pointed arch doorways and windows that include arris mouldings.
