Description

The Tea House is a summer house built in the mid-18th century, with an 18th or early 19th-century cottage attached to the rear. The front is made of sandstone ashlar, while the sides are constructed of brick featuring a dog-tooth cornice. The dome is currently covered in polythene, although it was originally made of lead. The building has slate hipped roofs and a square plan, designed in a classical style. It is a single storey with three small bays, featuring half-glazed double-leaf doors set in a moulded surround. The entrance has a pedimented doorcase supported by rusticated half-columns, though the left column is largely missing. There are round-arched niches on either side of the entrance. Inside, the circular room boasts a coffered dome with an oculus, along with a moulded doorcase, a fireplace, and a Vitruvian scroll dado-rail. The design is likely inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. The attached cottage at the rear is roughcast and has brick stacks, standing two storeys high due to the slope of the site. All openings are boarded up, and the building is currently derelict.
