Description

NUNEATON AND BEDWORTH ARBURY PARK SP38NW 4/14 Walls, gatepiers and gates, between Arbury Hall and stable block GV II

Walls, gatepiers and gates. Walls are probably largely C17/early C18. Random bond brick with stone coping and C19 buttresses to stable yard. Approximately 3m high. Southern section of about 10m with stone pier, and return section attached to hall, are early and later C19. Flemish bond brick with stone coping. Pier has moulded base and ball finial. Gatepiers are late C17. Sandstone ashlar. High moulded base. Moulded sunk panel to front and rear. Large acanthus cornice and pedestal and pineapple finial. Approximately 5 metres high. Early C18 gates and overthrow. Wrought iron. Gates have spear motifs with some scrollwork, scrollwork side panels, and elaborate scrollwork overthrow with cartouche of arms.
