Description
The structure consists of a wall, piers, and gates located on the east side of the forecourt to Sandford Park. The wall and pier date from the 18th century, while the gatepiers and gates are from the mid-19th century. The wall is made of marlstone and limestone ashlar and stands approximately 1.8 meters high, featuring a flat coping that rises at the southern end to a square pier with a plinth, moulded cap, and chamfered rustication. At the northern end, there are two large 19th-century rusticated limestone piers with elaborate carved finials that frame a pair of wrought-iron gates. A short section of wall to the north is likely from the 19th century and includes a gateway with a shouldered arch. These gates serve as the main entrance to Sandford Park, which is recognized for its group value and is also listed in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade II.
