Description
The piers and railings opposite the entrance to Sandford Park are 18th century structures, with the railings likely dating from the 19th century. They are made of marlstone.
There are two square ashlar piers, each featuring plinths, moulded caps, and chamfered rustication on all sides. These piers stand about 12 meters apart and are connected by a low rubble wall that has a moulded coping. Above this wall are wrought-iron railings, which have scroll-topped rails and five intermediate stanchions decorated with scroll work. The railings face the main gates to Sandford Park. This structure is included for its group value.
Sandford Park is also listed in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission County Register of Gardens at Grade II.
