Description
The churchyard wall and lychgate, located to the northwest of the Church of St Martin, were built in 1863 by G.E. Street. The structure features coursed squared marlstone and limestone rubble, with limestone ashlar dressings. The lychgate has a timber-framed canopy topped with a Stonesfield slate roof.
The wall stands approximately 1.3 meters high and has a chamfered stone coping, enclosing the west side of the churchyard and extending a short distance at both ends. At the southern end, there is a wooden gate designed in a cross pattern with wrought-iron infill. In the northwest corner, a pair of similar gates is topped by a simple canopy supported by four stop-chamfered posts, which are arch-braced at the ends and feature crosses in the open gables.
This structure is included for its group value.
