SANDFORD ST MARTIN LEDWELL ROAD (East side) Churchyard wall and lychgate to north west of Church of St. Martin

(Formerly listed under WORTON ROAD)

GV II Wall and lychgate. 1863 by G.E. Street. Coursed squared marlstone and limestone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings; timber-framed canopy with Stonesfield slate roof.

Wall is approximately 1.3m. high with a chamfered stone coping and borders the west side of the churchyard returning for a short distance at each end. The wooden gate at the southern end is of a cross pattern with wrought-iron infill. At the north west corner is a pair of similar gates, above which is a simple canopy resting on four stop-chamfered posts, arch-braced at the ends, with crosses in the open gables.
