Description
The Summerhouse/Teahouse and a section of wall located to the northeast of Butlers Green House date from the 18th century or early 19th century. This single-storey structure is made of red brick with stone quoins, and its roof has been replaced with corrugated iron sheeting. The south side features a central projecting entrance with a pediment above, and a doorcase that includes a rectangular fanlight. There are two sash windows on this side. The west side, which faces the house, has a crenellated parapet and a Gothick window.
To the north, there is a section of wall that includes an entrance framed by rusticated piers and a segmental arch with a keystone, topped with a gable that resembles a pediment. The wall is constructed in English Garden bond at the base, while the upper section has an unusual bond pattern of two headers and one stretcher, arranged so that the stretchers are aligned above each other in alternate rows. The red brick stretchers and vitrified headers contribute to its distinctive appearance. This wall also features garden elements with Gothick windows and a flat gauged brick head alcove, complete with quoins and crenellations. Attached to the east, forming an L-shape, is another section of red brick walling that includes brick buttresses and a plinth, along with a segmental arch. Although parts of this structure appear stylistically to be from the 18th century, they are not depicted in an engraving from 1787.
