Description

Steeple Cottage is a mid-16th century cottage, originally a two-bay house, possibly with a smoke bay, that was refronted in the 19th century and extended to the rear in the 20th century. The front elevation is of brown brick, while the right-hand side elevation is tile-hung and the left-hand side is rendered with decorative ovals and a pointed arch. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, with a half-hip on the right-hand side and a central brick chimney stack. The cottage has two storeys and three windows. The first-floor windows are mainly horizontally sliding casements. Ground floor casements have cambered head linings. The doorcase has a cambered head and a modern plank door. There are 20th-century brick and tiled extensions to the rear. The cottage was known as Naldrett in a document from 1572.
