Description

Lucas's is a late 16th-century timber-framed house that was refronted in the early 19th century and restored in the 20th century. The ground floor is red brick with grey headers on a sandstone plinth, while the first floor is tile-hung. It has a steeply pitched roof, hipped to the right and half-hipped with a gablet to the left. The house has two storeys and four windows, with modern casements featuring three, four or five lights. A central doorcase features flat weatherboarding on brackets. There is a multiple central brick chimney stack and a tall external stack to the east, built on a sandstone base.

The dining room contains late 16th-century panelling of fine quality, including an overmantel with five round-headed arches and pilasters. The ceiling retains a spine beam and joists with lambs tongue stops. A late 16th-century dogleg staircase, featuring turned balusters and square newels, is likely to have been resited. The house appeared on an estate map of 1638 as Edwards House.
