Description
The Old House is a house dating from around 1590, according to deeds, though there are said to be traces of a medieval building that were not seen during the survey. The house has been restored and enlarged in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed front with square framing, which is partly filled with plaster and partly with brick. The roof is hipped, with Horsham stone slabs on the south side and tiles on the north. There is an external brick chimney breast at the south end and a multiple off-central ridge stack. The building has two storeys and four windows, which are 20th-century casement windows. There are modern wings added to the north and east that are not of special interest. Inside, the ground floor includes a spine beam and joists with lambs tongue stops, as well as a large sandstone fireplace with a moulded beam above. It is noted that the house has been re-roofed, but only the ground floor was inspected.
