Description
Great Haywards Farm is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with a storeyed porch added in the 17th century and a refronting in the 19th century. The west elevation features a red brick ground floor, while the first floor is partly brick and partly timber framed with rendered infilling. The north elevation is tile hung, and the east elevation shows the complete timber frame on a brick plinth, with square framing and some tension braces. The building has a steeply pitched tiled roof that is hipped to the south, with a wide stack located off-center and an external stack to the north with a sandstone base. It is two storeys high with four windows featuring casements. The 17th-century two-storeyed gabled porch has wooden bargeboards with pendants; the first floor is timber framed, and the ground floor is brick, with the original three-plank door behind it. Inside, there is a large open fireplace and exposed beams, although the roof was not visible during the survey.
