Description
The tomb to Frederick Villiers Meynell, located to the east of the Church of St Wilfrid, is a Grade II listed tomb chest dating from around 1872. It features a rectangular stone plinth that supports a stone chest adorned with applied blank arcading made of pink stone, complemented by polished granite columns. The design includes central and end shields that display motifs of a horse and a dragon, along with the motto "VIRTUTE VICI". The tomb is topped with a thick stone slab that has leaf moulding and a cross intersected by a circle. It is noted for being an elaborate example of a High Victorian tomb chest.
